Black Lake Walking&Hiking

Black Lake is one of the premium Montenegro tourist attraction.

Black Lake (Crno Jezero) is the largest of Durmitor National Park’s glacial lakes, known as “Mountain Eyes”. Lake is actually made up of two smaller lakes, Big Lake (Veliko Jezero) and Small Lake (Malo Jezero), but when the lake level rises in autumn, it becomes one lake.

In summer the level drops and you can walk the path between the two lakes.

This is probably the most famous Durmitor trek surrounded by dense forest, with a backdrop of Medjed Peak attracts thousands of people every year considering the fact that it is among the easiest Durmitor National Park hiking trails.

The Black Lake circular route about 3.5 km long is just a wonderful hike for all skill levels, including families with children. Some parts of it are even suitable for people with disabilities and for families with strollers but they for cyclists as well.

The hike starts from the Black Lake main entrance. There’s a 700m walk from the parking area to the lake, but it’s a wide, sealed, flat road that’s suitable for strollers and wheelchairs.

The starting or end point has a wooden bridge and there are some sections of the path that have benches, picnic areas and several viewing platforms where visitors can enjoy the view.

There are many adjoining trails, so you can start it from Ivan Do or Bosaca. It is well marked and takes you through forest and meadows with stunning views of the surrounding mountains and lake.

The path goes around the lake is flat and it takes around an hour and a half a maybe of two hours to make a loop.

Near visitor’s centre you can find picnic area and a place where you can light a fire for a barbecue. There’s lots of space along the shore for spreading a blanket and soaking up the sun.
